Licensing, identity, and accountability
Check the exact artifact—not a blanket slogan.
Nurse AI OS combines open-licensed software and documentation, protected identity, third-party components, and future services. Exact notices still matter, and this page does not narrow an existing grant.
The durable rule: licensing is artifact-specific
Use the repository license and policy files together with any notice attached to the exact artifact. In this repository, Apache License 2.0 covers source code and CC BY 4.0 covers documentation, playbooks, and curricula. Third-party works, trademarks, services, datasets, and separately published artifacts may have different terms when those terms are actually attached.
Public website repository software
The public website repository currently contains an existing license file with an Apache License 2.0 grant. Source files and software that fall within that repository grant may be used under its terms, including its conditions, notices, disclaimers, and patent provisions.
Do not infer from that repository-level grant that every linked download, separately branded product, source from another repository, third-party dependency, course, policy, or service has the same license. Check the exact artifact and its provenance.
The NIN–NAIO Master Directive
This repository's public Directive summary is documentation and remains covered by this repository's CC BY 4.0 grant. The authoritative Directive source is maintained as a separately governed artifact; consult the terms attached to that exact source rather than inferring terms from this summary. Publication does not create a certification, assessor, franchise, endorsement, or official-status right.
Documentation, curricula, media, and role packages
This repository's documentation, playbooks, and curricula are licensed under CC BY 4.0 as stated in README.md, GOVERNANCE.md, TRADEMARKS.md, and CONTRIBUTING.md. Valid grants remain effective for covered versions. Materials published outside this repository require inspection of their own attached terms.
Role packages and generated archives may contain several license classes at once: original software, documentation, templates, third-party components, trademarks, and separately protected governance material. Their included notices and manifests control.
Open-core decision status
The long-term open-core boundary is pending a recorded owner decision. Until that boundary is published, the project will not promise that all future editions, services, conformance infrastructure, credentials, datasets, institutional implementations, or governance assets will be open source. It will also not pretend that an existing valid Apache or Creative Commons grant disappeared.
Third-party components
Third-party components retain their upstream licenses, trademarks, privacy terms, and notices. Hermes Agent is an external runtime from Nous Research. References to OpenClaw and other systems describe interoperability or research unless a specific implementation says otherwise. Inclusion, compatibility, or citation does not imply endorsement, partnership, institutional deployment, or transfer of upstream rights.
Protected identity and truthful reference
Nurse AI OS™ is a trademark of Robert Domondon. An application to register the mark is pending; no claim of federal registration is made. Open licensing of covered code does not grant the product name, logo, certification marks, visual identity, official status, or endorsement.
Truthful factual reference, review, comparison, criticism, parody, journalism, and research remain permitted by applicable law. A fork may describe its origin accurately under the applicable license, but it must use its own identity and may not imply official status, conformance, certification, partnership, or endorsement.
Healthcare implementation remains governed
Code availability is not clinical readiness. The public Community personal-use experience is D0/D1 only and is not the formally gated Personal Edition. It is not authorized for PHI, patient-specific decisions, EHR connection, or consequential clinical action. Any Personal Edition activation, D2–D4, Institutional, Sovereign, connected, or high-consequence implementation requires its own formal gate and applicable legal, privacy, security, clinical, technical, procurement, labor, and governance review.
Nurse AI OS is not a medical device, regulator, licensing board, or autonomous clinician. A license, signature, checksum, download, badge, payment, or edition label does not establish competency, compliance, PHI eligibility, institutional authority, or NAIO Conformant status.
